OTTAWA, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is applauding the NDP for supporting the removal of the carbon tax from all forms of home heating. The CTF is now calling on Liberal MPs to support the motion to provide all Canadians with carbon tax relief.
“All Canadians need carbon tax relief this winter,” said Franco Terrazzano, CTF Federal Director. “The Conservatives and the NDP say they will help all Canadians, now Liberal MPs must do what’s right and vote to remove the carbon tax from everyone’s home heating bills.”
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is removing the carbon tax from home heating oil for three years. However, that carbon tax relief only helps the small minority of Canadians who use home heating oil.
“Across Canada, fuel oil makes up just three per cent of residential heating energy,” according to the government of Nova Scotia.
MPs will soon vote on a motion to remove the carbon tax from all home heating bills.
The NDP announced they would support the motion to provide all Canadians with carbon tax relief.
Removing the federal carbon tax from natural gas would save the average home about $300 this year and about $1,100 over three years.
“Liberal MPs must stand up for their constituents who are worried about keeping the heat on this winter,” Terrazzano said. “The fair and simple solution is for the federal government to give all Canadians carbon tax relief.”
