Toronto, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is applauding the Ford government for extending the province’s 6.4 cent per litre gas tax cut for another six months.
“This is a big win for Ontario taxpayers,” said CTF Ontario Director Jay Goldberg. “It means the average two-car family will save another $225 over the first six months of 2024. Taxpayers are hurting and the Ford government is acting to make life more affordable for Ontario families.”
The Ford government cut the province’s gas tax by 6.4 cents per litre on July 1, 2022. Since then, the average two-car Ontario family has saved more than $500. The tax cut was set to expire Jan. 1, 2024. It has now been extended until June 30, 2024.
“The best thing governments can do to help make life more affordable for taxpayers is to cut taxes,” Goldberg said. “The typical Ontario family has saved $500 at the pumps since this tax cut was first introduced and savings will continue well into 2024.”
Taxpayers have saved more than $1.5 billion since July of 2022 thanks to the government’s temporary gas tax cut.
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation recently delivered 1,000 air fresheners that declared that “gas taxes stink” to the Ford government. The air fresheners were purchased by Ontario taxpayers to encourage the Ford government to extend the gas tax cut.
