VANCOUVER, B.C.: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is applauding B.C. United’s policy announcement to address affordability when families heat their homes and fill up their vehicles.

“British Columbians are being hit hard at the pumps and we need relief,” said Carson Binda, British Columbia Director for the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. “With B.C. United now coming out hard against sky high fuel taxes, Premier David Eby needs to start taking affordability seriously.”

Today, B.C. United announced plans to:

  • Permanently eliminate the provincial motor fuels tax which will save drivers 14.5 cents per litre of gasoline in most of B.C.,
  • Cancel future carbon tax hikes,
  • Remove the carbon tax from all home heating fuels, and
  • Remove the carbon tax from all fuels used on farms to bring down the cost of food.

B.C. United has promised to axe the provincial fuel tax, a policy position championed by the CTF in our recent pre-budget report.

“B.C. United Finance is showing a responsiveness to fighting unaffordability,” said Binda. “This is good news for British Columbians and shows that we have an opposition that responds to feedback from tapped-out taxpayers.”
