Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim on Taxpayer Federation Naughty List

Carson Binda Dec 21, 2023 | British Columbia

VANCOUVER, B.C.: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation has released its naughty and nice list and Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim found himself on the naughty side for bringing in a new tax on exotic birds like parrots.

“Sim should be expecting a big lump of coal under the Christmas tree this year,” said Carson Binda, British Columbia Director for the CTF. “Financial management in Vancouver has been so abysmal that Sim is even taxing our feathered friends!”

Every year, the CTF publishes a list of the politicians who should be expecting presents from Santa and those who are going to be finding coal under the Christmas tree.

This year’s naughty list includes:

  • CBC CEO and President, Kathrine Tate

  • Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

  • Senator Pierre Dalphond

  • Mayor of Quebec City Bruno Marchand and Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim

  • Minister of Industry Francois-Philippe Champagne

  • Mayor of Calgary Jyoti Gondek and Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi

  • Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston

  • University of Manitoba former law dean Jonathan Black-Branch

The nice list includes:

  • Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew

  • Liberal MP Ken McDonald

  • Parliamentary Budget Officer Yves Giroux

  • Alberta’s Village of Ryley

“It’s disappointing that one of B.C. mayors found himself on the naughty list,” said Binda. “Sim needs to stop hiking taxes on everyone from parrots to plumbers and small businesses if he wants to see himself on the nice list for 2024.”
